During the initial outbreak, Peasants had a similar percentage of death compared to upper class. However, Peasants constituted 80% - 90% of the total population.

Peasants was a term, not a class of people. There were varying types of Peasants that were separated by

  • mobility
  • income
  • wealth
  • specialized skill

Peasants often lived in villages, and had certain freedoms over Serfs. They could have money and better living arrangements, they could leave their land or renegotiate the terms on their leases. When the plague hit, many used it to purchase land.

Types of jobs Peasants had:

  • Miller
  • Blacksmith
  • Carpenters
  • Masons
  • Day laborers
  • Female servants
